Sukha Yoga & Nutrition Centre

Yoga is an ancient Sanskrit word that signifies union.  Union of body, mind and spirit.  Yoga is more than just a physical practice, it helps to promote self-awareness, relaxation and focus while improving strength, flexibility and balance.  Through regular practice of asana (posture), pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation) an individual can

develop a new sense of well being.

Sukha is a small studio located in the heart of St Catharines, where you will feel comfortable

developing your practice at your own pace.  Sukha offers classes that are suitable for all levels.  Classes currently offered include: Gentle, Hatha and Restorative.

The lead instructor Melissa Aubertin-Coutu has been teaching for the past 9 years.  Her training is in the Vinyasa and Kripalu traditions.  Melissa is a registered yoga instructor (RYT 200 hour) and she is presently working towards her 500 hour

certification at Kripalu.

What does Sukha mean??

Sukha is a sanskrit word meaning joy, pleasure and happiness.  Hopefully, coming to the studio will help bring more sukha into your life.  Furthermore, Sukha Yoga hopes to bring happiness to our community and

world around us by helping our students become aware of their potential to help heal our world.

The Environment & Sukha

The studio was renovated while incorporating the yogic concept of ahimsa (non-violence).  Non-violence towards the environment or being environmentally friendly is essential to our well being and future.  Sukha does its best to use materials that are not harmful to our environment.  The floors are laid with enviro-friendly cork.  Walls are painted with low volatile organic compound paints to help create a healthier indoor environment.  To reduce energy usage as well as greenhouse gases, energy efficient bulbs are used where possible in

the studio and the use of air conditioning minimized.  And of course, there are always recycling boxes and compost available.  Furthermore, all mats provided at the studio are eco-mats which means there were no harmful PVC's used in their production.  Sukha hopes to keep its impact on the environment minimal, while encouraging others to do the same.  Best of all Sukha offers a 10%  Green discount to students who commit to walking or riding to the studio.
